The agency has operated within the organization since October 2021 and has managed to arrest several of its members.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) infiltrated the Sinaloa Cartel for a year and a half, which led the agencies of that country to have “unprecedented access” to the highest levels of the organization. This is part of the fight to curb fentanyl trafficking, Anne Milgram, head of the US agency, reported on Friday, April 14th.

In a press conference from Washington, where new accusations against 28 operators and leaders of the criminal organization were announced, Milgram explained that the agency’s infiltration has led to following the alleged criminals around the world, some have been captured, six of them in Colombia, Guatemala, Greece, and the United States.

The new accusations, which are divided into three different cases, reach Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán López, and Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, sons of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, who, like their accomplices, face charges of trafficking cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, as well as possessing firearms and laundering money.

However, for the moment the DEA has not made mention of Ismael El Mayo Zambada, for whom it offers a reward of 15 million dollars, and who was the main partner of El Chapo.

“Today’s indictments send a clear message to Los Chapitos, the Sinaloa Cartel, and criminal drug networks around the world that the DEA will stop at nothing to protect the national security of the United States and the safety and security of health of the American people,” Milgram said.

According to the US official, the agency under her responsibility has been operating within the organization since at least October 2021, the date from which members such as Guadalupe Lupe Tapia Quintero, one of the main operators of El Mayo Zambada, have been detained. ; Gerardo Soberanes Ortiz, El G1, financial operator of the cartel; and Ovidio Guzmán, leader of Los Chapitos.
