During the thirteen weeks, Cancun has remained in the top three places, also shared by Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, with an average occupancy rate above 80%.
The federal Ministry of Tourism announces that for week 13 of 2023, (March 27 to April 2) the top three tourist destinations with the highest occupancy level are Puerto Vallarta with 87.0%, Los Cabos with 86.7% and Cancun with 82.7%.
During the thirteen weeks, Cancun has remained in the top three places, also shared by Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, with an average occupancy rate above 80%.
According to the expectation set by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, it is expected that at the end of the two week holiday Quintana Roo will have received 1.2 million national and international visitors.
The forecast is also based on the high activity shown by the Cancun International Airport, which only this weekend added 1,300 operations, with which it turned Saturday and Sunday, two consecutive days with more than 600 landings and takeoffs in a single day.
In addition to this, Governor Mara Lezama announces that Cancun will remain in the first places throughout the year, since greater air connectivity has been confirmed, since Volaris announced for this summer an increase in the frequency of five domestic flights in the entity airports.
The Bajío-Cancún route increases from 13 to 17 frequencies per week; while the Monterrey-Cancun, goes from 24 to 35; the flight from Guadalajara to Cancun increases from 39 to 44 weekly; from Puebla to Cancun, there are two more, that is, from 12 to 14 frequencies and, finally, Querétaro-Cancún, has an increase from 9 to 14 weekly flights.
Viva Aerobus, for its part, announced a new Los Cabos-Cancun route, which will begin on May 18 with a daily flight from Monday to Saturday. It will also increase the frequency of the Toluca-Cancun flight from two to three frequencies due to operational adjustments.
In addition, Viva Aerobus will resume the Monterrey-Cozumel route for the summer season, with two frequencies a week on Fridays and Mondays. Likewise, the Quito-Cancun route is about to start on June 16 with three frequencies, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
According to the State Secretary of Tourism (SEDETUR) headed by Bernardo Cueto, TAG Airlines has also shown interest in opening a route from Guatemala to Chetumal, and Aerus, a new airline, intends to start a Chetumal-Cancun route.
The increase in seasonal frequencies announced by Delta Airlines on March 17 for the holiday season that goes from its main hubs in the United States to Cancun is also planned. In addition to a direct flight from Atlanta to Cozumel.
Finally, Aeroméxico has started operating a daily flight from Mexico City to Cozumel since March 26.
“This increase in airline routes and frequencies responds to the promotion of a new tourism model with inclusive development, based on the New Agreement for Well-being and Development, which contemplates economic profitability that is reflected in better living conditions for workers,” said Lezama Espinosa.
