The Italian oil company Eni announced the discovery of a new oil field that may have reserves of up to 200 million barrels.

The Italian oil company Eni announced today the discovery of a new oil deposit in Mexico that according to its preliminary estimates may have reserves of up to 200 million barrels.

The discovery was made in the exploration zone called Yatzil in block 7, in block 10 in the mid-depth waters in Cuenca Salina Sureste, the company explained in a note.

Yatzil-1 EXP is the second well in Block 7 and the eighth well drilled successfully by Eni in the Sureste Basin, approximately 65 km offshore north of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, and 30 km apart from other reservoirs.

The well was drilled by the Valaris DPS5 Semisub rig in a water depth of 284 meters and reached a total depth of 2,441 meters.

Yatzil-1 EXP encountered more than 40 meters of net oil production of good quality, with excellent petrophysical properties confirmed by extensive subsurface data collection.

“This result follows the Saasken and Sayulita discoveries in Block 10 and confirms the value of Eni’s portfolio of Mexican assets,” the Italian company stated.
