MEXICO CITY.- In addition to large stations, three types of trains, tourist centers and hotels, the Mayan Train will have a central building, which will be located in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, which is built by engineers from the Secretariat of the National Defense (SEDENA).

During the morning press conference, it was pointed out that this building is built on a 5.5-hectare land, and it will be used by the general management of the company ‘Tren Maya’; that is, the consortium that will take charge of the entire project.

This building will have the following infrastructure:

General Directorate.

Parking for 570 vehicles.

Access booths.

Flagpole.

Maintenance workshop.

General storehouse.

National Guard Detachment.

Dining room.

Court of Honor.

Multipurpose courts.

Park “La Plancha”

Likewise, elements of the Army are building a park of more than 20 hectares in the center of Mérida, which is called ‘La Plancha’.

This park will be the first connection for tourists who use the Mayan Train and get off at the Teya station -which will be in section 3 of the route- with Mérida.

The Teya station and the park, which will be ready in November 2023, will be connected by a new electric transport system called ‘Va y Ven’.

The park will have bike paths, parking, a children’s play area, a gastronomic market, an open-air auditorium, an artificial lake, a sports court, a skating rink, a pet park, a gym, a shopping area, museums, a boardwalk, a linear walkway, a circular walkway and recreational trail; in addition to the Superior School of Arts of Yucatan.

Currently, the work presents an advance of 43 percent.

National Guard will monitor Maya Train wagons

As in the Mexico City subway, elements of the National Guard will monitor the stations, terminals and wagons of the Mayan Train, confirmed Luis Crescencio Sandoval, Secretary of National Defense.

The General pointed out that the 1,554 kilometers of railway line of the Mayan Train will be guarded by elements of the National Guard and the Mexican Air Force, for which reason military facilities will be built along the entire route to house military personnel.

“The National Guard will be present in stations, terminals, archaeological zones, workshops, garages and all the infrastructure that integrates this great project; For this purpose, railway security units/battalions and another tourist battalion unit will be created to provide security in archaeological zones”, informed the Secretary of Defense.
