INE authorities ask the citizenship to defend Mexico’s democracy against AMLO’s Plan B

Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, the president counselor of the National Electoral Institute (INE), invited citizens to present all legal resources at their disposal to stop Plan B of the electoral reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which says “dynamite democracy ”.

“This is the moment in which citizens individually or collectively can and I think they should, we must, if we want to defend democracy, present all the resources within the legal channels,” said Córdova Vianello yesterday during the presentation of the book Democracy is not touched, which he wrote together with the electoral adviser Ciro Murayama.

The president of the INE, who last week pointed out Plan B that the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, ordered the legislators to “cut up” the electoral body, stated that he does not know if this is true, but he sees it as a purpose of electoral reform.

“I don’t know if it’s true or not about tearing apart the INE, but reading the reform, it’s clear to me that this is the purpose.”

He clarified that if there is a political force that has benefited from the current electoral system, that is “the party that governs us” -Morena- for what he sees as a paradox that dynamites from power the conditions that led to him.

He insisted that all citizens should take legal action, because “perhaps someone is betting that there will be chaos, disorder, and that violence will eventually return to the struggle for power.”

He added that the electoral reform opens the door for elections to be a problem like in the late 1980s.

“If the INE is affected, the authenticity conditions that the elections in which we vote must have are affected,” he said.
