Mexican Economy Minister Raquel Buenrostro met with Canadian firms to follow up on energy agreements made at a meeting with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the ministry said on Monday, January 25th.

Northland Power, Canadian Solar, and pension fund La Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ) are the Canadian firms that met with Mexican officials on Monday, according to Mexico’s economy ministry.

Buenrostro will meet with the firms again next month to discuss progress made on the agreements, the ministry said on Twitter.

Lopez Obrador last week met with the three companies and ATCO, an official familiar with the matter said, to resolve their problems with Mexico’s electricity sector, after agreeing to see them at talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier in January.

Mexico’s economy ministry previously met with ATCO and Pattern Energy, which do not have pending issues to discuss anymore, the ministry said.

A Mexican official told El Financiero last week a “framework” for each of the companies’ problems with Mexico’s energy sector had been agreed upon.

The United States and Canada last year initiated dispute settlement proceedings against Mexico’s push to prioritize state-run energy companies under a regional trade pact.
