Oaxaca de Juárez.— After confirming four cases of human rabies since last December, in Oaxaca, Nayarit and Sonora, the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (SINAVE) of the federal Ministry of Health issued an epidemiological notice to health authorities throughout the country .

In the document, SINAVE urges the public and private health sector to “all suspected, probable, confirmed cases of human rabies must be registered in medical care establishments and must be immediately notified to SINAVE.”

In addition to the three cases in children of Palo de Lima, where two died, the presence of the rabies virus was confirmed in a canine in the state of Sonora, “whose antigenic characterization identified is the V.7 variant associated with the gray fox”.

It was reported that the health sector is currently monitoring “nine people who had risky contact with the canine.”

In December, a confirmed case of human rabies transmitted by urban fauna was reported in Nayarit, “derived from the attack on a person by a cat without a history of vaccination.”

To these are added two from Oaxaca: one by laboratory and another by epidemiological association.

The third case continues to be considered as probable, after the attack of a blood-sucking bat on the three children in the Oaxacan town of Sierra Sur.

Before them, in April 2022, a confirmed case transmitted by a flying mammal was registered in Jalisco.
