During the first week of January 2023, which runs from January 2 to 8, Cancun led the occupancy percentage, reaching 83.8%, followed by Puerto Vallarta with 81.8% and Los Cabos with 75.4%.

Cancun, which registered close to 84% occupancy in its more than 40,000 hotel rooms, represented 11.7% more occupancy than in the same period of 2022, when it achieved 72.1%, according to Quintana Roo Hoy.

According to the report of the Federal Secretariat of Tourism, the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean have the greatest tourist demand, compared to Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, CDMX, and Querétaro, which are falling behind.

Hotels in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres already have reservations until March, especially from Canadian and American tourists. For January they reach an average of 65% occupancy, February 54%, and for March 40%, figures that will increase as the travel dates approach. (Cancun: tourists from Canada and the USA detonate reservations until March).

“We are talking about the destinations that we represent, including (the hotels) in the city centers, which is positive, already for this start of the year, and we see that we will have an excellent 2023 with the arrival of the different markets,” said Eduardo Domínguez. Ibarra, director of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association.
