The electric carmaker will build the plant in Santa Catarina, in the northern city of Monterrey

Elon Musk paid a visit to Nuevo León last October. It seems that it was because the CEO of Tesla was supervising the place where he will establish his next plant.

After the visit, the government of that state confirmed the discussions about a possible investment by Tesla there. Now, rumors that Musk will invest in a manufacturing plant in Nuevo León are reaching a whole new level, as Milenio claims that the automaker and the government of Samuel García reached an agreement that will be announced in early 2023.

Apparently, the media outlet had access to documents stating that Tesla’s investment could end in the coming weeks and the new Gigafactory will be located in the municipality of Santa Catarina.

Not many details were mentioned, but what is said is that cargo trucks will be assembled there. It should be noted that Santa Catarina is about a seven-hour drive from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas.

The source informed Milenio that the land for the next Tesla facility has already been purchased. However, due to a confidentiality agreement, the details of the transaction, as well as the identity of the owner, have not yet been disclosed.

Let’s remember that Tesla even has its own lane on the border between Mexico and the United States to pass without queuing; the goal is to allow the automaker’s suppliers to cross the border faster and thus avoid waiting.
