During the morning conference Friday, December 23rd in Tabasco, President López Obrador expressed his support for Yazmín Esquivel, a candidate to preside over the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) and who was accused by the writer Guillermo Sheridan of plagiarizing his thesis.

“I would rather be wrong with the minister than agree with (Sheridan),” he said, adding that “all those who are asking for the minister to be punished have committed major crimes, and I am not justifying the minister.”

In this sense, he accused journalists such as Enrique Krauze and Carlos Loret de Mola of orchestrating a campaign against Esquivel, the candidate he proposed for the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice.

Even so, he urged the minister herself, who has denied the accusations, and the Judiciary to resolve the case as soon as possible, but avoided ruling on the possibility of resignation or suspension of office while the situation is clarified.

This Wednesday, Sheridan published on the news portal images of texts in which he compares Esquivel’s thesis from 1987 with another published the previous year, in which coincidences can be seen in all the content.

The Faculty of Higher Studies Aragon of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where the minister obtained her law degree, announced that it will carry out a detailed analysis of the document.
