The film Before the Vultures Arrive by Jonás N. Díaz stars Mexican young talent María del Carmen Félix.

María del Carmen Félix, Tsayamhall Esquivel and Francisco Pita will represent Mexico in one of the most important film festivals in Europe.

The work carried out by the three of them on Jonás N. Díaz’s first feature, Before the Vultures Arrive, paid off and will be part of the Big Screen Competition section of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, which will take place from January 25 to February 5.

The project deals with the story of Tuza, a fisherwoman with a tough and dominant personality, who seeks, through a journey, to obtain the redemption she wants so much, where her desires face loneliness.

For fifty years, the IFFR (for its acronym in English), has been characterized by gathering and recognizing the quality of international cinema, combining the daring, innovation, and independence of the projects.

The film Jonás N. Díaz joins those that have also been at the festival: Reed, México Insurgente (1972), by Paul Leduc; The heirs (2009) by Eugenio Polgovsky, as well as The Devil Between the Legs (2020), by Arturo Ripstein.

The Rotterdam festival is considered one of the five most important on that continent, along with film events in Venice, Cannes, Berlin, and Locarno.
