As absurd as it sounds, Mexico’s Security Secretary says “Hugs, no bullets” is working

Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), reported that there is a 22 percent reduction in intentional homicides than the all-time high of 2018, adding that the strategy “hugs, not bullets ” is working.

“The strategy works, we have a clear guideline from which specific tasks in prevention are derived (…) With these results, and more that would take too long to mention in this meeting, we confirm that we are on the right path and that the pacification of Mexico It is possible if we maintain unity in the actions we carry out from each of our areas of competence”, he stated.

When participating in the 48th ordinary session of the National Public Security Council, he explained that in October kidnappings decreased by 68.1 percent compared to January 2019, going from 185 to 59 victims.

There was also a 20.8 percent drop in femicide compared to December 2018 and in four years of government, adding that 65,000 criminals of different levels have been apprehended.
