María Salud Ramírez Caballero, better known as ‘Mamá Coco’, died at the age of 109; In 2017 she became famous for her uncanny resemblance to the old lady from the famous animated film.

Doña María Salud Ramírez Caballero, better known as Mama Coco, died at the age of 109 in her native Purépecha town, Santa Fe de la Laguna, in Michoacán.

The Secretary of Tourism in Michoacán, Roberto Monrroy, released the news through his social networks, where he expressed his condolences to the family of Ramírez Caballero.

“I deeply regret the death of Doña María Salud Ramírez Caballero, “Mamá Coco”, a tireless woman and a great example of life and who was an inspiration for this beloved character who went around the world, said the state official.

Monroy led his prayers for the eternal rest of Doña María and for her family to find early resignation. Doña María was the inspiration for the creation of the character in the Disney and Pixar movie “Coco”.

The inhabitants of Santa Fe de la Laguna assure that the producer of the film inspired by the Day of the Dead festival, photographed the woman in the plaza. In addition to Salud, the landscapes of the community were also represented in the film.
