The secretary of Foreign Relations Marcelo Ebrard pointed out that since the talks began, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Economy have worked hand in hand, and the sudden resignation of Secretary Clouthier will not hinder the negotiations.

Marcelo Ebrard ruled out that the negotiations over differences in energy matters with the United States are at risk after the resignation of the Secretary of the Economy, Tatiana Clouthier.

“Nothing is at risk, the talks will continue, and, well, we are going to wait for the President to tell us who is going to take over the secretariat, but I would not estimate that these talks will be hindered.

In that sense, Ebrard pointed out that since the talks began, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Economy have worked hand in hand, so there is no reason for them to get complicated. “There is a whole team working from the Ministry of Economy and the Foreign Ministry itself and that is not going to happen. Now with the new Secretary, well, what we will do is simply update him and move on, ”he said.

At the same time, he argued that it is not necessary for Mexico to request an extension, after the deadline for the United States to request a panel on this matter has expired. “The consultation is already underway,” said the secretary, who insisted that “you only come to the panel if there are no prior agreements.”

For this reason, Ebrard assured that agreements with the United States are likely to be reached. “In all cases where there are dialogue processes of this nature, the incentive you have is to reach an agreement.”

At the end of July, the United States government began the consultation process prior to a panel due to disagreements on energy matters that the Mexican State seeks to implement.
