Through the Covax mechanism of the United Nations (UN), Mexico received a shipment with 878,400 Pfizer vaccines, which will be destined for children between the ages of five and 11.
The batch, which arrived this Friday at the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM), was transferred to the National Cancer Institute for storage in the cold chain.
COVAX-19 is the result of a collaboration between Vaxine and CinnaGen, a private company with operations in the Middle East. COVAX-19 is a recombinant protein-based COVID-19 vaccine developed by South Australian-based biotech company Vaxine.
COVAX aims to accelerate the development and manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccines and guarantee fair and equitable access for every country. COVAX is co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, and WHO, with UNICEF as a key delivery partner and PAHO as the procurement agent in the Americas.
