Mexico has already welcomed 36 million international tourists so far this year. Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, head of SECTUR, recently announced that country welcomed over 36 million international visitors between January and July of this year. The North American country has a vast range of tourist hotspots which have helped bolster tourism.

Numbers are expected to grow as travelers flock to popular beach destinations. Below are some popular destinations that hugely contributed to the success according to Travel Off Path. The great news is, that while the country has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels of tourism, it is certainly heading that way.

Cancun

Reports show that Cancun is a favorite destination, at least for air arrivals, in Mexico.

“Between January and June this year, Americans accounted for 59.8% of all international arrivals to Cancun International Airport. About 3.4 million Americans have already visited Cancun by air this year.”  This is likely to increase as the winter period kicks off.

Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen has crept up to be a key place in Mexico’s travel scene. Both Tulum and Playa del Carmen recently broke all-time arrival records. Between June and August this year, the two cities received 822,000 visitors, shattering their 2019 record of 625,000.

Tulum

Tulum has grown in popularity over the last few years, so much so that this region in Quintana Too will soon have its own international airport. Tulum also broke records alongside neighboring Playa del Carmen.

Los Cabos

Los Cabos International Airport has welcomed about 3.5 million passengers in the first six months of the year. Travel Off Path revealed that this figure beats 2019’s numbers by 19%.
