A cenote is a natural sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath.

Ancient Mayas many times used cenotes for sacrificial offerings and as a source of drinking water.

The Yucatán Peninsula has so many cenotes, that people call it Cenote Heaven.

Cenotes are great places for those who want to cool off from the sun and swim in crisp mineral-rich waters in ancient caves or in midst of the jungle.

Some of the most popular cenotes in Mexico are: Cenote Yokdzonot near Chichén Itzá, Cenote Dos Ojos and Gran Cenote near Tulum and Cenote Azul near Playa del Carmen.
