On Monday, August 15th, Andrés López, president of Mexico, announced Leticia Ramírez as the new head of the Ministry of Public Education, replacing Delfina Gómez, who will go for the governorship of the State of Mexico representing AMLO’s political party Morena.

He stressed that the current director of Citizen Services of the federal government is a teacher, “we have known each other for 28 years” and she is a person “of absolute trust, prepared, honest.”

Ramírez was a teacher for 12 years, coordinator of Citizen Services during her tenure as head of government of Mexico City, as well as a leader in the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) and the National Coordinator of Education Workers.

Ramírez will be the third Secretary of Education of Mexico so far in López Obrador’s six-year term, which began in December 2018, after Gómez replaced Esteban Moctezuma, the current ambassador to the United States, in February 2021.
