The American citizen was transferred to Jalisco for medical care due to the lack of medical supplies in Florencia, Zacatecas, where she was attacked by an armed group.

The 2000 hospital in Guadalajara, reported that a woman died on the premises while she was being treated for gunshot wounds, she was transferred from Zacatecas.

This is a 57-year-old American who was vacationing in the municipality of Florencia de Benito Juárez, Zacatecas, when several armed individuals broke into the home where she was visiting relatives.

It is reported that her husband tried to avoid the attack, but the subjects shot at her, who fell wounded with two bullet wounds, while the aggressors fled.

The affected woman’s husband took her to a local hospital to receive medical attention; however, she was not treated due to the lack of equipment and medical supplies, so she was transferred to a hospital in Guadalajara.

She was received at the private hospital located on the corner of Avenida Circunvalación and Ávila Camacho, where she died while being treated.

The medical personnel notified the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office, and this, in turn, notified its counterpart in Zacatecas and opened an investigation folder under the femicide protocol.

Florencia is a mountain town in the south of its state, on the border with Jalisco; it is closer to Zapopan than to another city in Zacatecas, such as El Teúl, where there is only one simple clinic.

Zacatecas is one of the 11 Mexican states that the United States Government has placed on orange alert as a result of the violence generated this week, and called on its compatriots to reconsider travel, and also restricts its government employees to travel on various highways belonging to the 16 states on red and orange alert, under the argument of the high number of murders by drug cartels.

The US authorities highlighted that in recent days there have been multiple roadblocks, burned vehicles, and armed clashes between the Mexican security forces and members of organized crime groups in at least five Mexican states.

The US Department of State asks not to travel to Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas, due to the high rate of crime and kidnappings and declared a red travel alert.

The orange alert that asks to reconsider travel is for Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Baja California, Jalisco, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Morelos, Nayarit, Sonora, and the State of Mexico.

The alert refers to a high proliferation of drug trafficking groups, which is why clashes between cartels that dispute territories for the distribution of drugs are common, in addition to the fact that North American citizens are exposed to aggressions, robberies, assaults, kidnappings, and violent crimes, like homicides.
