Oaxaca de Juárez.– On July 16, civil society organizations began a series of activities that will conclude on July 24 to promote the “Guelaguetza in everyday life” in order to return the meaning “alive and deep” of this festivity that takes place every year in Oaxaca.

In its statement, the State Space for Native Corn of Oaxaca explained that it decided to raise its voice to let the world know that the guelaguetza is not folklore, it is not only a party and dance, it is not the beautiful handicrafts that Oaxacans no longer dress in. because now they adorn the tourist who can afford them.

“The guelaguetza is our way of life, it does not need to be practiced in the dog days to prevent someone from getting wet,” he assured.

This organization argued that the “imposed guelaguetza”, that is, the one organized by the Oaxacan government, is made to accumulate money and the beneficiaries of these economic resources are the hoteliers, restaurateurs, carriers, travel agencies “whose aim is to get rich , our Guelaguetza is made without money”.

“She is rebellious although she did not intend it, she is anti-systemic and that hurts capitalism, that is why she wants to disappear, from the culture of the Indians she only wants what is beautiful, what pleases others, what is for her own is being systematically destroyed,” he said.

He also mentioned that in order to wipe out the Indians in their communities, megaprojects are being imposed whose only aim is to plunder the wealth of the land to convert it into money, even if that means the destruction of nature, disease for those who live there, plants, animals and people, displacement for the inhabitants because their labor force is needed by capital so that it leaves it in what they call sources of employment.

“In the face of the subjugation that is imposed on us today, we call on the peoples of Oaxaca to turn back, to look into ancient knowledge so that we remember what our future has to be like, who does not know their past will not know where to walk. ”.

The State Space for Native Corn of Oaxaca made an invitation to practice the guelaguetza on a daily basis, “which is what makes us people, which is what allows us to enjoy the work and its products in common because the guelaguetza is the essence of communality.”

We are in times of guelaguetza, he pointed out, says the propaganda, although very few people remember the essence.

“Now only a few Indians eat guajes, for tourists that would be an exotic food, perhaps some gourmet restaurants offer them in their menus, but an average Oaxacan does not have the budget to acquire that.”

In the same way, he accused that the city of Oaxaca has been gentrified and those who used to live in the neighborhoods of the city center have been pushed to the neighborhoods on the shores, where there is no water.

The water that falls in the mountains and appears in the springs of San Agustín, he assured, is for downtown hotels, hotels or “of the new colonizers. We are in times of guelaguetza, we must offer the best to visitors, although the natives have to migrate to get a livelihood,” he concluded.
