India and Guatemala are the destinations with which the federal government seeks to connect the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA.

Miguel Torruco Marqués, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), informed through his Twitter account that he has begun the steps for the Guatemalan airline TAG Airlines to land at said airport.

“The steps have already been started so that TAG Air Transportation of Guatemala, chaired by Julio Gamero, begins the direct flight to the AIFA of Guatemala City and from there it can be a great multi-destination,” he said.

During a working meeting with the countries that make up the Mundo Maya Organization, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador, whom he invited to participate in the 47th Tianguis Turístico to be held in Mexico City in 2023, he also asked said airline to be ” branded” with the motto “Mundo Maya”.

Similarly, on June 18, he reported, after a meeting with the Indian ambassador to Mexico, Pankaj Sharma, that he showed all his willingness to strengthen ties with the country through what he called the three Ts: tourism, technology and “trade” (business).

Torruco Marqués assured that there are strong cultural ties between the two countries, and that with connectivity an important reactivation for tourism in these nations will be achieved.

It should be remembered that Isidoro Pastor Román, director of AIFA, told T21 last May that they were also seeking to connect with Panama, Colombia, Costa Rica, Europe and Asia, routes that would be starting in the remainder of the year and in 2023, while for the United States it will be until Category 1 in operational safety is recovered.

At the beginning of June, Copa Airlines confirmed that as of September 26, 2022, it will open a  new route between Panama and said terminal, with 3 weekly frequencies.
