According to the first testimonies, Mexico City authorities are investigating the death of a young man at the School of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) main Campus, who would have thrown himself from a building, which was evicted minutes later.

Some testimonies of students indicate that at around 1:30 p.m., authorities and Campus’ security personnel evacuated professors, students, and faculty workers.

An ambulance from UNAM arrived at the scene and doctors entered the facilities, later asking everyone to evacuate.

The university issued a bulletin specifying that the corresponding investigations are already being carried out and confirming that the student, who was in his second year, jumped into the void from one of the institution’s buildings.

All educational activities were suspended and the young man’s relatives were notified of what happened.

Some users on social networks have expressed concern about the increase in stress levels to which medical students are subjected.

While the UNAM ensures that it remains vigilant “in the face of the growing rate of cases of people with mental health problems that in Mexico and the world have worsened since the pandemic.”
