President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported this morning that he spoke with Gustavo Petro, winner of the presidential election in Colombia, to congratulate him on his “historic” victory, and stressed that the Colombian people “set the example” with their electoral participation.

López Obrador explained that he spoke with Petro on Sunday, June 19th, to congratulate him and added that he was criticized because, according to some allegations, he did not do the same with the current president of the United States, Joe Biden, whom he congratulated only until he made his victory official.

López Obrador insisted on the need for the integration of all of Latin America and trusted that there is the will to achieve this integration without excluding any country.

“We need to unite, to live together for the benefit of our nations, not to punish for ideological issues, dogmatism, or discrimination against our peoples, and to seek brotherhood throughout the Americas,” AMLO concluded.
