OAXACA.- Mezcal is dressed in colors. The Koch Foundation launched the special edition PRIDE 2022 with the purpose of raising funds and creating a House of Assistance for people with diverse sexual preferences who suffer or have suffered violence, discrimination or decide to restart their lives.
The general director of Koch el Mezcal de Oaxaca, Carlos Moreno, made the official announcement on the occasion of the month of diversity that is commemorated throughout the world during the month of June with a batch of 100 bottles and that due to its demand can be raised to 200, whose proceeds will be donated 100%.
“They are a batch of 100 bottles and 200 bottles can be raised. These 220,000 pesos will be used for rent for the care home where free lodging, food, and six months of employment will be offered so that people (LGBT+) restart their lives,” explained the businessman.
As a member of the LGBT community, he stressed that “Oaxaca is a place of tolerance, however, you must hear that there is a lot of violence through technological attacks, identity theft, accounts with clear extortion attempts.”
He considers that in “Oaxaca people need to say I am gay, there is nothing that can stop us and raise our voices because many have to live with a mask, suffer internally and we do not come to act in this life.”
So, the Assistance House is for people with diverse sexual preferences, who suffer or have suffered violence, discrimination, or who one day decide to make a change in their life and leave behind a family, partner, and sometimes children, which leads them to be left alone. and even jobless.
Oaxaca is a colorful city, the Guelaguetza is coming and Oaxaca is color, it is a state that has accepted the different sexual preferences because “I have never experienced any physical or verbal aggression, perhaps cultural, but Oaxaca is a place of tolerance and it must listen there is a lot of violence.”
The announcement of the special mezcal was made known to representatives of the media at Casa Mezontle, where the businessman stated that if it has been difficult for women to venture into the field of mezcal production, which has historically been a territory mostly of males, of men, for the gay community it has been doubly difficult… but not impossible”.
And it is precisely that Carlos Moreno, belonging to the LGBT community, has experienced some uncomfortable situations, which, he clarified, although they have not bordered on discrimination, reflect some degree of homophobia. However, he considered that Oaxaca is a state where there is great acceptance and tolerance regarding diversity.
Regarding the mezcal Koch PRIDE 2022 edition, a term by which Gay Pride Day is known internationally throughout the world, on June 28, the producer also explained that it is a distillate with citrus fruits that is already sold in Oaxaca with shipments to the entire Mexican Republic.
“The Koch Foundation” chaired by his mother Vicky Moreno, will be in charge of raising the funds and looking for the place where this Assistance House will be installed, and on behalf of the company we will provide them with employment so that they can rebuild their lives in a free environment. of violence and discrimination, explained the Koch manager.
The initiative, he said, arose during a working visit to Berlin, the German capital, where he learned about these types of spaces in support of people from the LGBT community.
“Fortunately, I have a mother who has understood and accepted my preference, however, I have many friends and have met people who have suffered from physical or psychological violence, often from the same family, to, on some occasions, rape, without there being a public policy that defends and protects them”, he explained.
In order to formalize services and care for LGBT people who are victims of discrimination, homophobia and violence, the Koch Foundation has requested, via official letter, a meeting with the state DIF, an instance with which they could jointly set up this Assistance House.
