This Thursday, June 2, the celebrations began for the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, who has 70 years on the throne of England.

The 96-year-old monarch, in these seven decades of reign, has made more than 100 trips abroad to the five continents, with Mexico being no exception.

In 1975, together with her husband, Prince Felipe, she made her first visit to our country. Her host was President Luis Echeverría, who in her honor offered a parade and several banquets, in which the sovereign was able to taste the gastronomy and feel the culture, the closeness of the people, and the history of our country.

From February 24 to March 1, Isabel II visited Cozumel, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Yucatán and Veracruz, a tour that was published in EL UNIVERSAL. The chronicles describe how her visit to Oaxaca took plae.

As she passed through Oaxacan lands, the monarch and her husband toured a hall of looms and the palace of handicrafts. At night the Guelaguetza and the dances of its eight regions.

The prince also made purchases: seeing a table full of ceramics, he asked that they all be sent to him. It was more than 200 thousand pesos, pointed out the reporters of this publishing house.

The purchases went like this: -How much is this? —said the queen and immediately afterwards she asked that the price be converted into English pounds.

She paid for everything in cash and with pounds. Isabel II also visited the archaeological zone of Monte Albán, where she was amazed by the remains. She even wanted to see the sunset from the archaeological zone, but it was a cloudy afternoon, so the sun did not cooperate.
