The Monaco Grand Prix was one of the most exciting races of the current 2022 season and it started with a considerable delay due to rain. The drivers had to wait over an hour to start the race that was won by Sergio Checo Pérez, his first one of the campaign with a podium completed by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and his teammate Max Verstappen.

Historic win for Checo Pérez

This was a huge win for Checo Pérez because he is now in third place in the driver’s championship with 110 points after seven races and was also the first time that a Mexican driver secured the win at the Monaco Grand Prix in the history of Formula 1 as he reached his fourth career podium.

Pérez looked sharp all weekend and managed to go from third place to first at the end of the race. The Mexican driver took over the lead on lap 17 and was able to hold on to the medium compound tires. Pérez said that winning the Monaco GP was a dream come true and brought confidence to the team to win it all this year.

“An amazing day for Checo, he’s been on it all weekend. His pace on the in-lap and the out lap from the wet to the inter, the teamwork, the double stop, both drivers picking off a Ferrari was fantastic. He’s doing a great job, look at his performances so far. Jeddah, he had an amazing pole, time delta to him and Max has been closer this year,” Red Bull’s team’s principal Chris Horner told Sky Sports.
