President López Obrador confirmed that on Friday he will talk with the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador explained that he does not yet know the issues that he will discuss in the virtual meeting this Friday with his counterpart from the United States, Joe Biden.
In the morning conference at the National Palace, López Obrador pointed out that it is important to maintain communication with the US government, of which he reiterated that a “good relationship” must be maintained, as was done during the administration of Donald Trump.
The truth is that I don’t know what the purpose is, it is a call to share points of view,” said the Mexican president.
“It could be the immigration issue, it could be what is happening with Russia and Ukraine, it could be the Summit of the Americas, there are several issues that we are dealing with together or that everyone has their opinion, but we listen to them and respect each other,” he said. .
The White House informed through a statement of the virtual meeting between Biden and López Obrador, in which they plan to discuss the priorities in the region and the next Summit of the Americas.
At the meeting, both leaders plan to discuss cooperation on migration, joint development efforts in Central America, energy, security, and economic growth, according to the official note.
The Mexican president will be one of the Latin American leaders who will attend the Summit of the Americas, organized by the US and to be held in the city of Los Angeles (California) from June 6 to 10.
At the beginning of April, Biden indicated that the priority of the meeting will be to weave a regional migratory pact in the face of “unprecedented flows in the modern history of the region.”
López Obrador has hardly traveled abroad since he took office in 2018, and on almost all occasions he has been to the United States, in July 2020 and at the beginning and end of November 2021.
