Between 2010 and 2012, the last years of Felipe Calderón Hinojosa’s six-year term, the world ranking released by the United Nations Organization (UN) placed Mexico in position 16, below Latin American countries such as Costa Rica and Panama.
Years later, between 2012 and 2014, when Enrique Peña Nieto’s six-year term had already begun, Mexico advanced a couple of levels and reached position 14, behind Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden. , New Zealand, Australia, Israel, Costa Rica, and Austria.
But Mexico did not appear again among the first 20 places of world happiness, since the 2013-2015 ranking placed the country in position 21.
During the last years of Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration, the country remained among the 30 countries with the happiest population: in 25th, 24th, and 23rd place in the 2014-2016, 2015-2017, and 2016-2018 rankings.
The first data related to the government of President AMLO appears in the 2017-2019 ranking, where Mexico remains in position 24. However, this count still includes the values reported for the last two years of Peña Nieto.
Between 2018 and 2020, the measurement of the world report placed Mexico in position 36, but between 2019 and 2021 the country fell to position 46, the worst in the history of the report.
