Mexico overtakes China again as the U.S. largest trading partner

Mexico resumed the crown as the main trading partner of the United States, measured by the sum of imports and exports, closing February with an accumulated balance of 113.2 billion dollars, according to official data from the neighboring country.

According to information from the Census Bureau of the US Department of Commerce, between January and February, Mexico accounted for 14.5 percent of the world trade of the main economic power, slightly surpassing China and Canada.

The return of Mexico as the largest trading partner of the US was thanks to a rebound in February, when the balance of the exchange of goods and services totaled 56.3 billion dollars, surpassing the aforementioned nations.

Mexico had closed December 2021 as the third partner of the US, registering in that month a commercial exchange of 57 billion dollars, while for January it was in second place with 56 thousand 900 million, on both occasions, the position of honor was occupied by China.

“Today the US Census Bureau gives us the news that, during the first two months of 2022, Mexico was placed as the number 1 trading partner of the US. with a total trade of 113 thousand 187 million dollars. We continue to strengthen our productive integration”, said Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of the Economy, on her social networks.
