Police officer David Santiago protected a baby he was carrying with his body when he was the victim of an armed attack on 248 in Cancun.

The agent of the Secretary of Public Security and Traffic of the municipality of Benito Juárez protected his 10-month-old baby daughter with his body when he was attacked by at least two armed men while he was walking on the street with his wife and daughter, in Region 248 of Cancun.

David Santiago “N”, 42 years old, went to the tianguis with his family, and on his way back home, two armed subjects got out of a taxi and opened fire against him.

Faced with such a situation, David Santiago, who was dressed as a civilian, threw himself on the floor and protected the baby with his body so that she would not be injured. However, the man received the impacts of a firearm projectile in the chest, skull, abdomen, and back.

Public Security agents took him to the Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital where hospital staff was already waiting to admit him to the operating room. So far his health status is reported as reserved.

Experts from Forensic Services lifted several 9-millimeter shell casings for handguns at the scene of the attack. But the gunmen escaped.

David Santiago, 42, originally from Tabasco, is an active member of the Secretary of Public Security and Traffic of the municipality of Benito Juárez, supervisor of sector 5 of the city, and was currently on vacation.
