A total of 157 femicides have been committed in our country so far in 2022.

The Ministry of Public Security registered 80 femicides in February 2022, a decrease of 29.2 percent compared to the historical maximum in August 2021 when 113 cases were reported.

However, it increased compared to January, the month in which 77 of these crimes were recorded.

In the year 2021, 1,060 femicides were committed throughout the country. May and August were the months with the highest number of crimes, 110 and 113 respectively.

The figure of 1,006 femicides is the highest at the end of any year since Andrés Manuel López Obrador is president.

In 2018, Enrique Peña Nieto’s last year as president, a total of 917 murders of women were recorded.

In the first month that López Obrador became president, in December 2018, there were 101 femicides in the country, which at the time was a record number.

In the rest of his six-year term, this figure was presented again in March 2021, in addition to the peaks of May and August of the same year.

In the report given in January by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Rosa Icela Rodríguez, stated that the femicides committed during 2021 had decreased compared to previous years, but the numbers show a different picture.
