Tapachula (Mexico), March 10 (EFE).- Migrants from various nationalities are preparing a massive march for today Friday, March 11th, in Tapachula, in the southeastern state of Chiapas, during the tour of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, through the region.

The foreigners met this Thursday in a park in Tapachula, a town on the border with Guatemala, to announce that the demonstration will be peaceful.

This protest, which is added to many others that have occurred in recent days, has the objective of asking the Government of Mexico to speed up regulatory procedures and issue visitor cards for humanitarian reasons.

Martha del Carmen Vazquez Chavez, a Salvadoran migrant, explained to Efe that she has been living in Tapachula for two months and demanded that the Mexican government grant them documents so that she can quickly leave this city and continue her route north.

“On behalf of Salvadoran women, I have come to ask you to help us because we are hungry and there is a lot of violence. We are exposed to violations, to being mistreated,” said the woman.

These people claim to have gone on several occasions to the offices of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar) and migration to carry out the procedures, but they have not been able to obtain their official documents.

This, in part, is due to the constant clashes and protests that other migrants, mostly Africans and Haitians, have been carrying out for days, who, for example, this Thursday broke into the headquarters of the National Institute of Migration (INM).

Mayra García, a migrant from Venezuela, asked the Government of Mexico to help them with her documents in order to move towards the north of the country.

“I am living on the street, starving, sleeping in the park and we no longer have money to stay in the city. Therefore, we ask for a solution for our papers,” she explained.

The woman pointed out that she had already searched for ways to get out of Tapachula clandestinely, but she was caught and returned to this municipality, where hundreds of foreigners live poorly.
