A man recorded the exact moment in which a jaguar walks through the streets of Residencial Alborada, an apartment complex located in the Joaquín Zetina Gasca neighborhood, in the municipality of Puerto Morelos, in Quintana Roo.

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), this animal is in the “near threatened” category of the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and in Mexico, it is an endangered species. of extinction, whose hunting has been prohibited since 1987.

In the video, (no more than 15 seconds long), a jaguar appears walking slowly along the street right by a line of parked cars in Residencial Alborada. Before the clip ends, the cat heads towards the grasslands in the area.

The audiovisual was recorded by Ron Haugen, a man originally from Fredericksburg, Iowa (United States), who lives in the aforementioned apartments in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo.

The footage was shared on the morning of Sunday, March 6, so it could have been filmed on Saturday night, March 5, or early Sunday morning.

“Some developments in Puerto Morelos have monkeys, we have a jaguar”, wrote user Ron Haugen on his Facebook page.


The jaguar is capable of inhabiting mangrove swamps, pine forests, deserts, mountainous areas, and, above all, tropical lowland forests and subtropical forests.

According to the WWF, in Mexico, the species inhabited regions with these characteristics in Sonora, Tamaulipas, coastal plains of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific, Chiapas, and the Yucatan Peninsula.
