MEXICO CITY, March 3 (Reuters) – Citibanamex, one of Mexico’s largest banks, is spending 1.4 billion pesos to open 1,200 branches throughout the country, a top executive said Thursday.

“We are making profound changes,” said Corporate Director of Commercial Banking Daniel Garduno said in a news conference for the bank, whose consumer unit is set to change hands in the next two years through a sale announced in January.

Banamex reported that about 10% of its entire branch network will have five new formats and digital solutions.

“With the commitment to offer a better financial experience in the country, we strengthen the scope of our infrastructure,” said Daniel Garduño, corporate director of commercial banking

The transformation of the branches will seek to improve the satisfaction of the bank’s clients by 20%.

Citibanamex expects the sale of the retail banking business to take two years to complete, according to the latest information.
