Gentrification is the process of changing the character of a neighborhood through the influx of more affluent residents and businesses.
The phenomenon of gentrification, in which due to factors such as tourism, the value of houses and apartments as well as their rents increases suddenly, continues to hit Puerto Vallarta.
Now, it has come to light that a single apartment with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom with a living room and kitchen in a single chamber is being offered at 7 million pesos as the cheapest, this in an apartment tower that was built next to the El Salado.
The development, by Grupo Cresento, located in front of the maritime terminal, was heavily criticized by biologists, urban planners, and the population in general, since it not only breaks with the clear sky that characterized Puerto Vallarta and damages its image, but it is dangerously next to a Protected Natural Area, El Salado.
In theory, the building should not have obtained the permit due to its proximity to the ecosystem. At the time, biologist Jaime Torres told Vallarta Online that the work in the subsoil to place the concrete and the foundations could affect the estuary.
In addition, its enormous height represents a potential obstacle for migratory birds that arrive at the estuary, which could be disoriented by the noise and lights that the building, already practically completed, could generate.
One person posted the offer on a Facebook group in Puerto Vallarta, but in the comments, he only got jokes and ironic remarks about the high and totally out-of-proportion price for the 1-bedroom apartment.
