Mexico.- The law that establishes that those who block the toll booths on the highways can go to jail comes into force , and this was established with its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

It is a reform to the Law of General Communication Routes that fines with prison and also with monetary sanctions to those who prevent the passage of motorists in order to collect or request financial aid.

Said norm was approved during the month of December of last year and contemplates the punishment for all those who interrupt the construction of the roads and also those who hinder the transit and operation of the toll services with a profit objective.

The decree published this day marks that people who incur in any of these actions in the booths or on the roads will be able to spend between 3 months and 7 years behind bars.

The economic fines range from 100 to 500 times the daily value of the Measurement and Updating Unit, which this year is equivalent to 96.22 pesos, which means that any person responsible would pay from 9,622 pesos, up to 48,110 pesos, in the highest penalty.

Better late than never! Concanaco applauds that AMLO removes blockades in toll booths

José Héctor Tejada Shaar, president of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce and Tourism Services (Concanaco-Servytur), applauded the decision made by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to defend the law and the rule of law by removing the blockades that normalistas at the toll booths and on the railroad tracks.

The business leader said that the union is grateful to the President of the Republic because there were many problems in the states of Guerrero, Chiapas and Michoacán with highway seizures.

He argued that the recent law initiative approved by legislators that punishes up to seven years in prison for people who participate in the blockade of communication routes in the country will also favor them.
