Senator breaks with Morena’s candidate in Quintana Roo, AMLO supporters jumping ship

A few hours after the Citizen Movement votes whether or not to confirm the candidacy of actor Roberto Palazuelos for the Governorship of Quintana Roo, the senator for Morena of that state, José Luis Pech, distanced himself from the candidacy and said that it is not possible to maintain unity for the June 5 elections.

“Today I have confirmed that there are no conditions to create unity in Morena and face the state’s electoral process together. That is why I have decided to make public my decision not to support the Green or Morena candidate for governor,” Pech said.

In a 47-second video on his Facebook account titled “The hope of the Morena supporters in Quintana Roo was betrayed,” the former Morena candidate for Governor in 2016 openly said that he will not support that party’s candidacy.

Without mentioning his name, Pech, who was one of the candidates for the candidacy of that party that was finally assigned by the national leadership to the Mayor of Cancun, Mara Lezama, criticized the attitudes of the morenistas in that entity.

The senator from Quintana Roo for Morena insisted that it is not possible to achieve unity in an electoral campaign if arrogance prevails.

“Without humility, it is not possible to achieve unity because arrogance does not allow us to put ourselves in the shoes of others or understand or listen to each other,” said the 68-year-old legislator.

The senator did not clarify whether he will run for another party but left the possibility open.

“For my part, I will continue to seek that we in Quintana Roo have a good option to govern ourselves. We deserve a decent government,” concluded the senator.

Pech has also been a delegate and state leader of Morena between 2016 and 2018 when he won as senator of the entity for that same party.

Likewise, he has participated in several state governments as Secretary of Finance and Education and has also been rector of the University of Quintana Roo.
