WASHINGTON DC – (February 8) – U.S. Special Climate Envoy John Kerry will travel to Mexico City on Wednesday, February 9th, and meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and other government officials, the U.S. State Department said on Monday.
Kerry will aim to increase cooperation on the climate crisis, including expanding renewable power generation, combating methane pollution, transitioning to zero-emissions transportation, and ending deforestation, the State Department said in a statement.

John Kerry, President Biden’s global climate envoy, warned nations one week ago during a virtual meeting with environmental world leaders that the planet is “not on a good track” to meet its goal of pivoting away from fossil fuels in order to avoid the most dangerous consequences of climate change.
It seems like Mr. Kerry wants to personally explain to Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador how important it is right now to promote clean energies.
Many experts think that President Joe Biden decided to send John Kerry to speak with the Mexican authorities after the statements made by the US ambassador Ken Salazar, saying that AMLO’s electricity reform is a good thing.
