Denver, CO (January 2022) – Isla Holbox and Valladolid have both been named among the 50 best places to travel in 2022, according to the annual “Travel Lemming” list of emerging destinations. Only Querétaro was the other Mexican destination to make the list.

The complete list of the 50 places to travel to can be found here.

Regarding the selection of Holbox Island in the tenth position, the article points out that many of the travelers were somewhat disappointed due to the recent sargassum problems that they encountered on their vacations.

The article notes “the great speed of development in Holbox”, but opines that “The local community of Holboxeños is genuinely committed to ensuring that they do not follow the path of Tulum, the official representative of 2021 in matters of over-tourism”

Valladolid, on the other hand, makes its second appearance on the “Travel Lemming” list after being crowned the #1 emerging destination on the 2019 “Travel Lemming” North American list. This year Valladolid sits at # 38 in the world ranking.

The list was compiled collaboratively by the 15 editors and writers of “Travel Lemming,” an online guide with more than a million annual readers in the United States and Canada. The popular annual list emphasizes destinations that are underrated or considered “hidden gems.”

“Travel Lemming” Founder Nate Hake commented: “Isla Holbox and Valladolid are two of the most spectacular travel destinations in Mexico, but they don’t get even a little bit of the appreciation they deserve. I hope that as the tourism industry continues to recover this coming year, international travelers will not only visit popular destinations like Cancun but will also venture out to these “hidden gems” like Holbox Island and Valladolid.
