On Tuesday, January 18th, there was a fire and explosion in a pipeline of PetrĂ³leos Mexicanos (Pemex) in the municipality of Nopala, state of Hidalgo.

The incident occurred in a place known as Loma de Progreso, a place far from residential areas, where alleged Huachicoleros —people who steal and illegally sell fuel— extracted gasoline. The flames reached more than 50 meters high, reported El Sol de Hidalgo.

Fortunately, the closest populated area, known as Maravillas, is more than 10 kilometers away from the place where the explosion occurred.

In addition to the explosion in the pipeline, two vans with containers on board were found at the scene, which caught fire and burned completely.

So far it is unknown if there are people injured or dead as a result of this event.

Precisely, January 18th marks the third anniversary of another explosion in this region that left 137 people dead.

We’re talking about the tragic explosion of a Pemex pipeline in the municipality of Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, which the authorities attributed to fuel thieves ( Huachicoleros ).
