Architect Rogelio Jiménez Pons leaves the General Directorate of the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur) and the coordination of the Maya Train project, as reported in a statement.
Now, the new head of the Fund will be Javier May Rodríguez; Likewise, it was reported that Fonatur will continue to lead the Maya Train project.
Therefore, Jiménez Pons will become the Undersecretary of Transport of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT).
The Maya Train had a total of 61 weeks of reports, until Monday, January 10th, of 157 in which the project is projected to conclude.
Last November, Jiménez Pons acknowledged that the project was five months behind schedule, due to weather conditions and the pandemic situation. Some people close to president Lopez Obrador say that could be the reason for his removal.
