Ariadna Montiel Reyes is appointed the new head of the Welfare Secretariat

Ariadna Montiel Reyes was appointed on the morning of Tuesday, January 11, as the new head of the Welfare Secretariat. This change in the cabinet was announced by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador himself who, after testing positive for COVID-19 for the second time, was represented by the current Secretary of the Interior Adán Augusto López to swear in the official.

It is worth mentioning that since 2018, when the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador began, Ariadna Montiel was in charge of the Undersecretary of Welfare, a position that María del Rocío García Pérez will now occupy.

According to the curricular profile that the website of the Chamber of Deputies manages, Reyes Montiel was born on May 29, 1974, and she could not get her degree in architecture and design from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

She began her career in politics in the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) being one of the representatives of the National Democratic Left current.

During the term of former President Vicente Fox, from 2000 to 2003, she held the position of Finance Secretary of the PRD in Mexico City, however, a year before she was head of the Youth Secretariat in the same capital of the country.

In 2006 she was Secretary of Political Relations and Alliances of the PRD in the CDMX, at the same time that she was consolidated as an alternate senator for the actress María Rojo.

Years later, during Marcelo Ebrard’s administration as head of government, Ariadna Reyes Montiel was General Director of the Passenger Transport Network (RTP).

From 2015 to 2018, she entered as a federal deputy for electoral district 23 (Coyoacán) in the LXIII Legislature, where she served as secretary of the Mexico City Commission and member of the Committee of the Center for Social Studies and Public Opinion, of Rights of Children, Treasury and Public Credit, and Public Education and Educational Services.

From 2018 to date she served as head of the Undersecretary of Welfare.
