The news of his contagion came after the governor led a work tour in the municipality of Irapuato, where he was present at various public events delivering health and paving works as well as the 2021 State Sports Award and Conventional Sportsman Award.

Likewise, during an event in the town of Nuevo Copalillo, Diego Sinhue shared with the community that COVID-19 tests are periodically performed as he is aware that his work involves being in constant contact with many people on a daily basis, in the same way, during the public events in which he participated, he was seen complying with the corresponding prevention measures such as the use of face masks at all times. The governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo was on a working tour of the municipalities of the state when he tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time (Photo: Screenshot)

In December 2020, the governor of Guanajuato also announced through social networks that he had been infected with COVID-19, however, in the same message he detailed that during his first days of contagion he did not present any symptoms but that he was already isolated and complying the corresponding prevention measures.

Days after his first infection, on December 28, 2020, the 40-year-old governor required preventive hospitalization due to fever, cough, and breathing problems. However, after remaining in treatment at the General Hospital of Silao, the state governor was discharged and continued his recovery at home.

“I want to thank those who are giving their best effort in the battle against # COVID19 in #GTO, I take this opportunity to recognize the great team of Hospital Gral. #Silao, thanks to them today I am already recovering at home and reading their messages. “#UnidosSomosGrandeza and we will move forward,” wrote Diego Sinhue after being discharged after being infected with COVID-19 for the first time.Diego Sinhue, governor of Guanajuato, required hospitalization the first time he was infected with COVID-19 (Photo: @diegosinhue) Diego Sinhue, governor of Guanajuato, required hospitalization the first time he was infected with COVID-19 (Photo: @diegosinhue)

Currently, in Guanajuato, there are a total of 211 thousand 113 people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic since the first positive case, according to the latest official data for January 10. In total, there are 13,473 deaths in the region as a result of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic, however, on the last day no new deaths have been certified in the state.

It is worth mentioning that the news that the governor of Guanajuato tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time came minutes after the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, confirmed his positive case and clarified that he has mild symptoms, but will remain for a few days in isolation under medical treatment.

“I inform you that I am infected with # COVID19 and although the symptoms are mild, I will remain in isolation and will only do office work and communicate virtually until I get ahead,” the Mexican president wrote on the social network.

During his usual morning press conference at the National Palace on Monday, January 10, the president raised concerns because he appeared publicly with symptoms of a dry, sore throat and without a mask.
