This magical town is located in the mountains of Michoacán. It is known as the town of eternal Christmas for its rows of chalet-style houses in various bright colors that are reminiscent of places like Tlacotalpan in Veracruz, the neighborhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires or even some as far away as Bergen in Norway.

During the month of December, the shops of Tlalpujahua are filled with colorful handicrafts, since in this town one of the most important commercial activities is the production and sale of blown glass Christmas balls. There are a large number of open craft workshops for the public to visit and learn how these Christmas decorations are made.

Tlalpujahua is a mining town and there is the “Las dos Estrellas” mine, which at the beginning of the 20th century was the main producer of gold worldwide. Now the mine has stopped producing, but the Mining Technological Museum has been built there, offering tours for all interested visitors. You will be able to go down to the mine and observe the worksite of the miners up close.

If you want to visit Tlalpujahua, you can do it by car or bus from Mexico City (just under three hours away) or from the city of Morelia, capital of the state of Michoacán (two hours away).
