After two days of intense work meetings, the Sinaloa Government’s Health and Tourism Secretariats agreed to resume the reception of cruise ships in the port of Mazatlán.

The Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Ma. Del Rosario Torres Noriega, said that in response to the instructions of the Ministry of Health, the arrival of cruise ships that request to dock in Mazatlán will be allowed.

“The agreements reached seek to protect the health of Sinaloans without affecting shipping tourism in Sinaloa, for which we will continue working without lowering our guard,” said the state official.

She reported that the agreement was notified to the Port Captain and the Administration of the National Port System of Mazatlán (ASIPONA),

Torres Noriega clarified that only travelers who do not show symptoms of COVID will be allowed to get off the ship; These cruise passengers will enjoy free transit in the city but must attend to health prevention measures.

Travelers with symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus will be provided medical attention if required and must remain confined on the boat.

Rosario Torres confirmed that this Wednesday, December 29, authorities of the Health Secretariats will carry out random tests to detect COVID in passengers who arrive at the Mazatlan tourist pier aboard the Jewel cruise ships of the Norwegian Cruise line and Koenigsdam of Holland America.

In addition, as prevention measures, the biosafety protocols established at the national and international levels will be applied.

It will be the Secretary of Health of Sinaloa, Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, who will lead the application of sanitary measures to prevent infections and the spread of COVID in Mazatlán. 

The actions will be carried out in the presence of authorities from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Tourism, ASIPONA, and Coepriss (State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks).
