Christmas hangover or is it actually omicron? Symptoms are similar, says one expert

The symptoms of a hangover can be very similar to certain signs of omicron, the new variant of COVID-19, warns specialist Adam Caputa for ‘The Sun’.

During the Christmas season, alcohol consumption increases up to 50 percent, as reported in the National Survey of Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Consumption. With this, the incidence of veisalgia, commonly known as hangover or hangover, also increases.

The hangover is the result of intoxication derived from the consumption of alcoholic beverages in amounts greater than that tolerated by each person, according to Dr. Jonathan Aguirre Valadez, member of the Mexican Board of Hepatology.

The specialist affirms that the hangover or hangover is characterized by headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, sensitivity to sound and light, rapid heartbeat, irritability and anxiety. But are we sure it’s just the result of drinking too much alcohol?

Hangover or is it omicron?

At this time of year, people have more fun than usual, they drink too much and as a result, comes the hangover or hangover, and one assumes that it is only because of the alcohol. However, it may be related to omicron, the new variant of COVID-19, says Dr. Adam Caputa.

“The symptoms of the new variant of ómicron” appear to be more varied and subtle potentially delta “and may” in the early stages, mimic the symptoms of a hangover, “says the specialist interview for the English newspaper The Sun.

The signs of ómicron include fatigue or extreme tiredness, headache, muscle aches, and sore throat. These symptoms can “be mistaken for a hangover,” warns the expert, who states that the key to differentiating them is how long the symptoms last.

” After about 24 hours, we would normally expect the hangover to subside and all symptoms go away, so if this persists, it is most likely an omicron infection.”

Likewise, cold or stuffy nose symptoms can also be a sign of omicron. The doctor says that we should not forget the previous key symptoms of COVID infection: fever, cough or loss of smell and taste. “With those, you should immediately isolate and do a PCR test.”

It can be a rather unfortunate coincidence to suffer a hangover and COVID simultaneously, but in reality, the timeline from exposure to the appearance of symptoms, “may be shorter with omicron than with the previous variants,” explains the expert for the UK newspaper.

A hangover -explains the specialist- “initially could exacerbate or worsen the symptoms, as a double effect with the virus. If we are seeing a combination of symptoms that do not resolve within the usual hangover time frame, 24 hours or so, then that should definitely prompt isolation and a COVID test, “concludes Dr. Adam Caputa.
