Yes there will be a Night of Radishes in Oaxaca on December 23

Oaxaca de Juárez .- Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa announced that this year the traditional Night of Radishes will be held, on December 23 in the Zócalo of the city of Oaxaca, and that the total cost of the event will be assumed by the State Government.

“I want to inform you that my government will be assuming the entire cost of this event because we must continue to have this great tradition; I understand the difficulties that the municipality of Oaxaca is experiencing today, but the important thing is that our Zócalo lives its greatness, ”said the state president in a video message broadcast on social networks.

Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, State Secretary of Tourism, declared open the call for market gardeners to participate in the Night of Radishes, through the artistic intervention of radishes, immortal flowers and totomoxtle flower.

Rivera Castellanos recalled that this Oaxacan tradition has been celebrated uninterruptedly in the Zócalo of the state capital since 1897.

For his part, Gabriel Cué Navarro, secretary of Agricultural Development, Fisheries and Aquaculture ( Sedapa ) reported that producers began planting radishes last October 6, so they are ready to be harvested.

“So that our artisans and artisans can make these wonderful figures always in honor of this emblematic festival of the Oaxacan capital.”

The gardeners and gardeners who wish to participate in this great night must present themselves at the offices of the Ministry of Tourism located on Avenida Juárez 703, in front of El Llano Park, in the city of Oaxaca.
