President AMLO assured that Biden has not spoken with him about the issue and recalled that his government “no longer allows” foreign agents to “intervene.”

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador declared this morning that it is up to his Government to arrest the children of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, after the reward offered by the United States for their capture.

“If they are in national territory, it is up to our authority to stop them, no foreign force is allowed to act in this matter and in any other in our territory, we are the ones who have to do our job,” said AMLO in his daily press conference on the capture of Chapo’s children.

The president referred to the list that Washington published last Wednesday in which it offers 5 million dollars for information that leads to the arrest or conviction of Ovidio Guzmán López, Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar and Joaquín Guzmán López, sons of the Chapo Guzman.

The State Department also identified as a drug trafficking organization two Mexican groups from the Beltrán Leyva cartel: Los Rojos and Guerreros Unidos, whom it considers responsible for much of the heroin trafficking from Mexico to the United States.

But López Obrador said that US President Joe Biden has not spoken with him about the issue and recalled that his government “no longer allows” foreign agents to “intervene” in operations.

“There is a concern of the United States Government because many Americans, more than 100,000, have lost their lives due to the consumption of these drugs, which are very dangerous, and that is why they made this decision,” he said.

In this context, the president recalled the Fast and Furious operation with which the United States introduced weapons to Mexico in 2010 to track down criminals.

“This is a flagrant violation of our sovereignty and we cannot allow it under any circumstances,” he warned.

The president still raises controversy for his handling of an operation known as “El Culiacanazo”, in which federal forces arrested Ovidio Guzmán, Chapo’s son, but released him hours later for violent acts by the Sinaloa Cartel.

The president insisted that “yes” it is a priority for his government to capture the drug trafficker, but he defended his personal decision to release him that day given the risk that the civilian population in Culiacán was running.

“If we did well, if we did wrong, history will tell. I was the one who made the decision to stop the operation, ”he said.

López Obrador also recalled that former President Donald Trump threatened to send the military to Mexico after that act and the massacre of the LeBaron family in November 2019, when nine people died, most of them also of United States nationality, in an attack in the north of the country.

“There was an offer that they could send forces to capture those responsible or this son of Guzmán Loera and those responsible for the murders in Bavispe, and we did not allow it, we took charge, it is our responsibility,” he said.

During his morning press conference, broadcast this Thursday from the National Palace, the president asserted that the Government of Mexico must do its job in this regard, according to the investigations that have been carried out in the country on the ” Chapitos “.
