Canadian airline WestJet resumes operations with a weekly flight.
MÉRIDA, Yucatan.- After almost 2 years suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Toronto-Mérida flight, of the WestJet airline, resumed operations.
The ticket would have an approximate price of more than 7 thousand pesos, with a weekly departure every Tuesday in December, and it is almost 7 hours of travel.
The Canadian firm WestJet Airlines is the second-largest in that country, together with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore, and has connections to about 90 destinations, including the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
The Toronto-Mérida route has been established as a constant in the winter season, for the linkage of Canadian tourism.
First passengers arrive
This Tuesday at 1:20 p.m., the first passengers from Toronto arrived on the WestJet B737-800 aircraft.
This route is in addition to the 4 direct international connections that the International Airport of the City of Mérida “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” has with Miami, Houston, Oakland, and Dallas.
Due to the declaration of a Coronavirus pandemic, established by the World Health Organization (WHO), at the end of March 2020, this flight was suspended, however, with the gradual restart of international air mobility, its recovery was announced.
It should be noted that this service registered, during the months of January to March 2020, that is, before the pandemic, 77.2% average occupancy in arrivals and departures, at said terminal in the Yucatecan capital.
