Located in Mexico’s southernmost state of Chiapas, San Cristóbal de las Casas offers a mashup of Mayan culture and colonial architecture in a setting that changes rapidly between urban and rural.
While downtown, be sure to visit the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya and the Asociación Cultural Na Bolom, both of which work to preserve, display and propagate the heritage of the region’s Indigenous communities.
Also head just outside the city to explore can’t-miss nature-focused attractions like El Arcotete (a cavern-filled park) and Orquídeas Moxviquil (a botanical garden).
